CH4 or Methane is a chemical compound with an atomic mass of 16. It is the simplest alkane, and an important component of natural gas. Methane's bond angles are 109.5 degrees between the four hydrogen atoms. Burning methane in the presence of oxygen produces carbon dioxide and water.
I like the general appearance of this blog, it is very neat and organized. The picture of the molecule was correct, it showed a three dimensional AX4 tetrahedron molecule and all of the angles appeared to be correct. I agree that it is a non-polar molecule because of the equal distribution of positively charged hydrogen molecules around the central molecule. I also agree that the only force acting on this molecule is London dispersion. And he has me sold on converting my house to methane as an alternative energy source and way to help with global warming. -Evie Jansen
ReplyDeleteBecause this blog is organized and very factual, it was very easy to follow. The picture of the molecule correctly depicted the anlges of the AX4 tetrahedron. You are correct when you say it is a nonpolar molecule. Because it is nonpolar, the only forces acting on it are dispersion, specifically London Dispersion, just like you stated in your blog. Also, thank you for informing me that methane is also an energy source, because alternate energy sources are in demand in 2011.
